Calderdale Current: A Local Energy Project with Purpose

Calderdale Current: A Local Energy Movement Built for Impact

At Hawley Energy, we’ve always believed that energy isn’t just about kilowatts and compliance, it’s about people, places, and purpose. We spent a decade working with organisations across the UK to help them cut waste, meet regulations, and build smarter systems that last. From solar panels and heat pumps to energy audits and carbon reporting, we turn complex requirements into clear, practical steps. But what really sets us apart is how we build around existing strengths. We don’t just deliver services, we help teams grow, adapt, and lead with confidence.

Our work is rooted in trust. We’re proud to be based in Brighouse, and even prouder to support businesses and communities across Calderdale. Whether it’s helping a school reduce its energy bills or guiding a manufacturer through ESOS compliance, we bring clarity, strategy, and a hands-on approach that gets results. That’s why we’ve launched Calderdale Current, a flagship local energy programme designed to bring everything we’ve learned into one powerful, community-first initiative.

Calderdale Current is more than just a project. It’s a movement. It’s about making energy work better for everyone, from small businesses and charities to local institutions and community groups. We know that many organisations want to take action on energy, but don’t know where to start. They’re worried about cost, confused by regulations or simply too busy to take on another challenge. Calderdale Current is built to change that. It’s designed to be simple, supportive, and scalable so that anyone can get involved and start seeing benefits quickly.

At its heart, Calderdale Current is about unlocking local potential. We help organisations understand their energy use, identify savings, and access funding or support to make improvements. That might mean installing solar panels, switching to LED lighting, upgrading heating systems, or just making small changes that add up over time. We also help with the paperwork, whether it’s ESOS, SECR, Display Energy Certificates or grant applications so that teams can focus on what they do best.

But Calderdale Current isn’t just about technical upgrades. It’s about building a shared sense of purpose. We’re creating a network of early adopters, organisations that want to lead the way and show what’s possible. These pioneers help shape the programme, test new ideas, and inspire others to follow. We’re also setting up a Community Benefit Fund, so that savings and support can be reinvested locally via a Grant Programme run by a local grant making powerhouse. That means more resources for schools, charities, and grassroots projects and a stronger, more resilient Calderdale for everyone.

One of the exciting parts of Calderdale Current is how it connects with our PowerPacks initiative. PowerPacks are modular energy solutions designed for smaller organisations that want to act but don’t have the scale or budget to go it alone. By grouping demand, we can unlock better rates, simplify delivery, and make high-impact upgrades more accessible. Think of it like a toolkit –  solar, heating, lighting and controls, all bundled into a flexible package that fits your needs. Whether you’re a community centre, a small business, or a local venue, PowerPacks make it easy to get started and grow over time. We’re particularly interested in supporting the third sector.

For every kWH that is supplied via Calderdale Current, a contribution is made to a central fund. You can apply for a grant from Calderdale Current to move your sustainability aspirations forward but if you want to go even further, you can also approach PowerPacks and get finance to really drive efficiency into your operation.

Together, Calderdale Current and PowerPacks offer a joined-up approach to local energy. They’re built to work side by side, helping organisations take action now, while laying the groundwork for bigger changes ahead. We’re already working with early supporters to test and refine the model, and we’re seeing real momentum. Organisations are keen to start saving money, cutting carbon, and building stronger connections with their communities. And because everything is designed to be modular and scalable, we can adapt to different needs, sites, and budgets.

We know that energy can feel overwhelming. The rules keep changing, the options are endless, and the stakes are high. But we also know that with the right support, every organisation can make progress. That’s why we’ve built Calderdale Current to be practical, personal, and empowering. We start with what’s already working, build around your strengths, and help you take the next step, whether that’s a quick win or a long-term strategy.

We also understand the importance of trust. That’s why we’re transparent about our fees, clear about our advice, and committed to long-term partnerships. We don’t push supplier agendas or sell one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we listen, adapt, and deliver what’s right for you. And because we’re based locally, we’re always close by, ready to help, troubleshoot, or just talk things through.

Calderdale Current is about making energy work for Calderdale. It’s about turning insight into action, and action into impact. It’s about helping organisations lead with purpose, save money, and build resilience. And it’s about creating a future where every building, every business, and every community can thrive.

If you’re ready to explore what’s possible, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you want to join as an early adopter, explore PowerPacks, or just learn more, we’re here to help. Together, we can build something powerful, something local, lasting, and full of potential.

Let’s make Calderdale Current the spark that lights the way.
